all about me

My name’s Diane Wordsworth. I’m a Brummie who moved to Yorkshire in 2004 and fell in love with more than just the county.

I started to write articles and short stories for magazines and newspapers in 1985 before training as a broadcast journalist with BBC Radio. Since then I have become a full time freelance writer who also edits and proofreads in-house and education trade magazines, non-fiction books, novels and classroom resources. I have also written activity annuals for kids.

In November 2010 my first novel, NIGHT CRAWLER, was published, in February 2012 my short story collection, TWEE TALES, was published, and in 2013 TALES FROM BAGGINS BOTTOM, BEST BITS BOOK ONE, a collection of blog posts from 2005, was published. Since then, TALES FROM BAGGINS BOTTOM, BEST BITS BOOK TWO, TALES FROM BAGGINS BOTTOM, BEST BITS BOOK THREE, TWEE TALES TOO and DIARY OF A SCAREDY CAT - A YEAR IN THE LIFE OF A FRIGHTENED WRITER have also been published (see the books page).

In November 2015 I wrote a new novella, MARDI GRAS, for NaNoWriMo - the first time I ever completed the challenge. This was followed in 2016 with another completion, CATCH THE RAINBOW. Aside from polishing both of those, I am also currently planning a sequel (THE BEAST WITHIN) to NIGHT CRAWLER, a prequel (HATTIE'S HOTSHOTS) to CATCH THE RAINBOW, and a new series, starting with THE FOOL - A STEVIE TAROT STORY, and I'm writing a mystery/romance standalone, WHITEHORSE FARM.

NIGHT CRAWLER was republished in February 2016 as NIGHT CRAWLER: A MARCIE CRAIG MYSTERY (by Diane Wordsworth).
